Location, location, location. Meroe Camp takes that old adage to heart. At about 1 km from the Meroe pyramids and necropolis, the camp is within walking distance of an archaeological paradise.
The camp is open from October to April, and offers 22 twin tented rooms, with a private restroom and shower each. The common areas have jaw-dropping views of the desert and the nearby archaeological sites are 15 minutes away at an easy pace.
The camp is remote and the generator goes out at around 11pm, so be sure to bring a torch with you. I would not mind much about that, because the night sky is rather spectacular, and a full day of roaming ancient ruins guarantees a good night’s sleep.
