India
Nestled in the middle of the Himalayas, Mary Budden Estate is a tranquil retreat in the mountainous Kumaon region of northern India. The Estate lies within Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary and provides a welcome retreat from all the hassle in this off-the-beaten-track corner of India. A place with a rich history, it is lovingly maintained and a family-run 19th-century homestay.

The property offers both rooms and cottages. The latter can accommodate up to six people and offer unparallel privacy and relaxation. The common areas capture the cosiness and comfort of a mountain retreat and there are exterior areas where guests gather for lively bonfires in the evenings.

Mary Budden Estate has the benefit of being in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, which can be explored by foot without the need to hire a jeep. Bird-watching is excellent and there are other, rather charismatic, dwellers in the Sanctuary. The Estate is near two temples, one of which is a 9th-century treasure and fairs and festivals are celebrated in the vicinity throughout the year.
