Eastern Tibet is a region of wonder and discovery. The pristine nature and the unforgiving mountains make it an isolated and untouched part of the world. Travelling in Eastern Tibet was usually reserved for those with a taste for roughing it up a bit: tents, fireside meals and, of course, exposure to the weather. A HIDDEN LAKE
Rawu Tso is Eastern Tibet’s largest lake, yet it remains practically undiscovered because it is surrounded by protective mountains. Laigu Lodge is perched on one of these, overlooking the lake and the glacier above it. In harmony with its surroundings, the lodge is enclosed in the mountain face: it doesn’t disrupt the landscape yet it offers dramatic views of the lake valley beyond. The double-layer windows offer magnificent insulation and protection from both inclement weather and UV light. To ward against altitude sickness, the lodge features oxygen concentrators, so you can enjoy all the beauty of high altitude without the setbacks.
SLEEP TIGHT AT NEARLY 4,000M
Laigu Lodge has 20 rooms, four of which are suites. With spectacular views, the rooms are steel structured, unlike other Songtsam lodges which usually employ more traditional materials. The rooms afford great proximity to the mountainous landscape while remaining comfortable and snug. The restaurant and library are lovely common areas to gather and exchange stories after a day of exploring, or simply discovering the joys of Tibet.
A PERFECT VILLAGE
Due to its isolation, Laigu village retains the elements of the Tibetan way of life unadulterated by outside influences. It is one of the most perfect villages in Eastern Tibet and a best-kept-secret. Near Laigu, Relongba glacier is the perfect spot for a bit of adventuring and for mellower sortie, Dusong Tso lake features a pristine forest.
